Comic to Movie Comparison
The movie 300 is basically the comic book brought to life in the form of Hollywood magic. It is very rare that the movie deviates from the comic's original structure. In fact, much of the action in the movie is taken directly from the comic. This is clearly seen in the figure on the right. This figure shows a scene from the comic that is practically identical in the movie. This really shows you how much of the movie is taken directly from the comic.
Also, the colors used in the movie are taken directly from the comic's color pallet. Both the graphic novel and the film use a very dark and earthy pallet with the anomaly of blood red which helps represent the Spartans. This similarity can also be seen in the figure to the right, as you can see the very dark earthy colors being used aside from the red cape that Leonidas is wearing.
Both the movie and the graphic novel use the same strategy of romanticizing and making the story of the Spartan army of 300 way over the top. This strategy is used to keep the audience entertained and engaged. They both do a really good job at this, so although neither the graphic novel nor the movie are historically accurate, they make for fantastic entertainment.
Overall, the movie can't really be described as an adaptation of the graphic novel. This is purely because the movie just basically brings the comic to life in the form of CGI and Hollywood magic. The director hardly went off course from the original story line of Miller's graphic novel. This just goes to show you how revolutionary this comic really was for it to not really need any adaptations for the big screen.
