Movie Vs. Comic
The greatest contrasting feature between the movie 300 and the graphic novel 300 is Leonidas himself. In the movie Leonidas regards his men as fellow soldiers and not subjects. He also is a family man whom is fighting for freedom and family. Also, in the movie naturally, his love interest is greatly expanded on from the graphic novel. So his wife plays a big part in the movie as a lot of the time he seeks her trust and guidance.
In the graphic novel, Leonidas is depicted more as this cold hearted Spartan warrior who is fighting for honor and glory. He is depicted as this fearless character who is ready to face anything head on without care for anything else. But, in the comic you can assume that beneath his cold hard exterior, he wonders if he will be able to acquire glory and immortality.
Overall, 300 on page and on film are close to exact in nature. Naturally, the graphic novel follows the assembly of comic book heroes, while the movie utilizes the magic realism of Hollywood to raise the Spartans to mythical proportions. The differences in Leonidas’ portrayal is what set the two apart. Though in the end, in both book and movie, Leonidas proves to be a hero, and a Spartan.
